Description

This Thai green tea mix, called cha khiao in Thailand, makes the bright green milk tea served at Thai dessert cafes. Expect a soft, grassy tea flavor that turns creamy once milk goes in and is sweet enough to enjoy as a dessert drink. Any added coloring is named in the ingredient list below.

Green tea (94%), sugar (5%), artificial flavor, artificial color (INS 102, INS 110, INS 133)

How to make it

Steep about 2 tablespoons of mix in each cup (240 ml) of just-boiled water for 4 to 5 minutes, then strain it through a cloth filter or a fine mesh strainer. Sweeten while hot, pour over ice, and add evaporated milk or sweetened condensed milk to taste. The cloth-filter steps in How to Make Thai Iced Tea work the same way for this mix. Ice dilutes the tea as it melts, so use 3 tablespoons per cup if you like a stronger glass, and stir well before serving because the sweetened milk settles at the bottom.
